Key Outcomes

Odessa 71, Central 70

The Bobcats (1-6, 0-2) traveled up to Odessa (5-2, 2-0) for their second Little Southwest Conference game and lost in an overtime thriller. The Bobcats found success in the ground game with the return of running back Jayvion Robinson, who had 22 carries for 195 yards and two touchdowns rushing. Quarterback Christian "Squeaky" English also had plenty of success running the ball, tallying 254 yards and six touchdowns rushing.

The Bobcats and Bronchos traded blows all game and went into overtime. The Bobcats struck first, but Odessa answered and won the game on a gutsy two-point conversion.

Bangs 41, San Saba 38

Bangs (2-5, 1-2) got its first district win over San Saba (2-6, 1-3) in a hard-fought district matchup on Friday. The Dragons ran the ball effectively, led by quarterback Kenny Cole, who rushed the ball 23 times for 212 yards and three touchdowns.

The Armadillos dropped their third-straight district game after an impressive win over Hamilton to start their district schedule. San Saba can score points with anyone in its district and still has opportunities left to snag one of the playoff spots in District 5-2A Division I.

Coleman 29, Hamilton 22

Coleman (6-2, 3-1) bounced back from a tough loss in the previous week against Tolar. The Bluecats got out to a little bit of a slow start but pulled away in the fourth quarter after a pair of touchdown runs from quarterback Brayden Torres and athlete Jaidin Jackson, respectively. Coleman is tied with De Leon for second place in the district and travel there for next week's pivotal matchup.

Mason 28, Johnson City 27

The Punchers (7-0, 1-0) fought tooth and nail with Johnson City (6-2, 1-1) but came away with a crucial win on the road in their first district game. Mason faced adversity when quarterback Carlton Schmidt got hurt early in the game, but quarterback Frankie Bolley stepped in and helped navigate the team through a back-and-forth contest.

The Punchers face another tough test next week as they host a young and resurgent Junction team.

Sterling City 28, Iraan 25

The Eagles (6-1, 3-0) fought back from a first-quarter deficit and escaped from Iraan (3-4, 0-2) with a victory to stay undefeated in the district and keep pace with No. 9 Wink.

The Eagles relied on their strengths and rushed for over 300 yards in the win. Next week, the Eagles host Eldorado in another tough district test against a team fighting for a playoff spot.

Robert Lee 80, Veribest 54

The Steers (7-1, 2-0) got off to an early 22-0 lead in the first quarter and kept a multiple-score lead for the rest of the game. The Falcons (7-1, 1-1) put together 54 points in the final three quarters behind 181 yards and one touchdown passing from quarterback Hunter Hallmark.

Ultimately, though, Steers running back Brayden Sherwood's 20 carries for 227 yards and seven touchdowns rushing was too much for the Falcons to overcome, and they dropped their first contest this season.

Other Notes

  • After a tough non-district schedule, Early is 2-0 in district play and looked explosive on offense with quarterback Rohyn Price throwing for 309 yards and six touchdowns in a win over Brady.
  • Miles bounced back in a big way with a 61-point blowout over Hamlin, who was playing well coming into the matchup against the Bulldogs (4-2, 1-1).
  • Forsan continued its strong start to district with another double-digit win, this time over Anthony. Junior quarterback Nicholas Holloway and sophom*ore wide receiver Hayden Bowlin continued their strong season, hooking up for 120 yards and two touchdowns in the win.
  • Wall is back to running the football very effectively in the team's second 50-point-plus win to start district. The Hawks (5-2, 2-0) had 10 different players with a carry this week for 392 yards and six touchdowns rushing.
  • Richland Springs beat Rochelle in a highly anticipated matchup between District 16-A Division II powerhouses. The Coyotes (8-0, 2-0) proved themselves as potential state contenders with the win, while the Hornets (7-1, 1-1) have another tough test against Cherokee at home next week, which could have playoff implications.
  • Eldorado fought for four quarters but fell just short against McCamey in a game that could decide who makes the playoffs. The Eagles (4-3, 1-2) passing attack led by quarterback Omar Barajas put up 316 yards in the loss. Eldorado travels to Sterling City next week and then Iraan the following week.
