High school girls sports roundup: Brudos throws perfect game, West Salem softball wins Coulee (2024)

ONALASKA —Sophom*ore pitcher Josie Brudos dominated for the West Salem High School softball team, pitching a perfect six-inning game against Onalaska Luther on Tuesday to clinch the Coulee Conference championship.

The Panthers (12-4, 11-1) rode Brudos’ pitching excellence to a 12-0 win over the Knights (3-18, 1-11) on the road.

Brudos faced 18 batters and struckout 15 of them. Brudos threw just 65 pitches for the Panthers’ fourth no-hitter this season.

At the plate, senior Signe Roesler hit a home run as part of her 3 for 4 performance that netted the Panthers five RBIs. Brudos, senior Megan Johnson and junior Makena Ihle all had two hits.

West Salem moves on to play Central in nonconference action on Friday. Luther visits Whitehall on Thursday for a WIAA regional quarterfinal.

Black River Falls 6, G-E-T 3

GALESVILLE — The Tigers (9-8, 7-5) head into the WIAA regionals with a three-game conference winning streak after a road victory over the Red Hawks (9-9, 8-4).

MVC

Aquinas 6, Tomah 5 (9)

In extra innings, the Blugolds (14-6, 8-4) ended the Timberwolves’ (18-3, 11-1) 27-game conference winning streak on a passed ball with the bases loaded.

Mady Gagermeier (2 for 5) singled and then took advantage of a fielding error to reach third base. After a pair of walks, Gagermeier scored on a passed ball.

Tessa Miskowski forced extra innings with an RBI triple to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh.

Holmen 11, Onalaska 1

ONALASKA — The Vikings (14-10, 8-4) were powered by another great all-around performance by senior Marci Jacobson in their win over the Hilltoppers (7-12, 3-8).

As the Vikings pitcher, Jacobson struck out nine batters in a complete game. At the plate, Jacobson had a pair of doubles and two RBIs. From the lead off spot, sophom*ore Macy Kline went 3 for 5 with an RBI triple.

Senior Sidney Fillbach had Onalaska’s only RBI.

Central 8, Sparta 1

SPARTA — The RiverHawks (9-7, 6-4) picked up a road win over the Spartans (2-14, 0-11).

Scenic Bluffs

Hillsboro 11, Bangor 0 (6)

BANGOR — The Cardinals (8-6, 8-6) were shutout for the first time all season, mustering just three hits in a loss to the Tigers.

Bangor also struggled defensively, committing seven errors. Gladys Bores, Ella Janisch and Rae Keuler were the Cardinals hitters to get on base via hits.

Ridge and Valley

Ithaca 8, De Soto 0

Ithaca 9, De Soto 1

STODDARD, Wis. — The Pirates (4-14, 4-8) were held to just two hits in the first game loss to the Bulldogs, then managed just one run in the second contest.

Three Rivers

Caledonia 12, Winona Cotter 1 (5)

CALEDONIA — The Warriors (17-2, 13-1) mercy ruled the Ramblers and clinched the East Division of the conference.

Caledonia finished the game with seven runs in the seventh inning after allowing their first run in the top of the frame. Annah Anderson led the way with 2 for 4 hitting with a home run and four RBIs. Vivian Kittleson, Paizley Lange and Avery Augedahl each had a home run as well.

Braelyn Lange controlled the Ramblers from the pitching circle, striking out seven batters and allowing just three hits.

Nonconference

Altoona 11, Logan 1 (6)

ALTOONA, Wis. — Sophom*ore Kenna Streeck was a perfect 3 for 3, but it wasn’t enough for the Rangers (6-16) to overcome a dozen hits by Altoona.

Seneca 5, Westby 1

SENECA, Wis. — The Norsem*n (3-16) scored just one run off an RBI from Kyle Molledahl in their loss to Seneca.

GIRLS SOCCER

MVC round robin

West Salem 2, Central 1

The Panthers (7-4-1, 6-2-1) scored a pair of goals in two minutes to knock off the RiverHawks (7-4-2, 7-1-1) by a 2-1 final.

Emily Bell scored in the 58th minute with an assist by Addy Ferguson to tie the game at 1-1. In the 60th, Brynlee Kelly scored an unassisted goal to go-ahead. West Salem goalkeeper Baylee Faucet had three saves.

Central had a 1-0 halftime lead after Gabby Jarman scored just over three minutes in. Central goalkeeper Laura Lapp matched Faucet’s save total with three.

Onalaska 2, Holmen 0

ONALASKA — Amaya Thesing scored both goals for the Hilltoppers (10-0-3, 8-0-1) in their win over the Vikings (8-5-2, 5-3-1).

Natalie Tevis assisted on the first Thesing goals while Lydia Hartman assisted on the second. Summer Nicolai had seven saves for Onalaska while Holmen’s More Lindsay had 10 saves.

Sparta 6, Arcadia 0

SPARTA — The Spartans (5-8, 3-7) shutout the Raiders (0-12, 0-10) with four second half goals to insure the win.

Maddi Schauf scored in the 16th minute with an assist by Ellie Falkner, who scored a goal of her own in the 32nd minute. Lilly Steele, Elle Erickson and Brook Evans each had goals in the second half.
