The Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APWLD) is calling on diverse women across the Asia-Pacific region to join their mission as a Programme Associate. About the Role

APWLD is hiring a Programme Associate to support two critical initiatives:

  1. Climate Justice Programme: This program champions women most affected by climate change, pushing for policies that dismantle systemic inequalities and promote feminist solutions. It’s not just about environmental advocacy—it’s about centering women’s voices in a global conversation dominated by powerful interests.
  2. Crises and Women’s Human Rights Initiative: This initiative digs into the interconnected crises—economic instability, climate emergencies, political conflicts—that disproportionately harm women. Through research, advocacy, and movement-building, it aims to drive feminist responses that challenge the status quo.

You’ll work alongside a passionate team of feminists, grassroots leaders, and human rights defenders to advance women’s rights, build leadership, and advocate for Development Justice. This role is fully remote, allowing you to work from anywhere in the Asia-Pacific region while making a global impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Planning and Execution: Assist in designing, implementing, and monitoring program activities like research, advocacy campaigns, and trainings. Think of it as being the backbone of initiatives that create real change.
  • Communication Hub: Act as a liaison between members, partners, and stakeholders across the region, ensuring everyone is on the same page.
  • Logistical Support: Handle the behind-the-scenes work for meetings, events, and advocacy initiatives, including travel and accommodation arrangements.
  • Policy Advocacy: Support members in participating in regional and international forums where decisions affecting women’s lives are made.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Draft reports, funding proposals, and knowledge resources that amplify the impact of APWLD’s work.
  • Cross-Program Collaboration: Work with other APWLD programs to ensure a unified approach to feminist advocacy.

Selection Criteria

Essential Requirements:
- A proven commitment to women’s rights, social justice, or grassroots organizing in the Asia-Pacific region. This isn’t just a job—it’s a calling.
- 2–3 years of experience in development, feminist movements, or human rights organizations. You’ve been in the trenches and know what it takes.
- Deep understanding of the political, economic, and social challenges women face across the region.
- Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Exceptional organizational and time-management skills, crucial for remote work.
- Proficiency in digital tools like Google Workspace and virtual platforms.
- Willingness to travel internationally when needed.

Desirable Attributes:
- A background in social sciences, law, development studies, or women’s studies.
- Experience in participatory research or policy analysis, especially on climate justice or economic crises.
- Familiarity with feminist analysis and movement-based advocacy.
- Knowledge of regional or international human rights frameworks.
- Experience working with grassroots organizations or membership networks.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary: Starts at USD 1,200/month with a $130 remote work allowance.
  • Benefits: Health insurance, social security contributions, and a 13th-month salary.
  • Contract: A 2-year renewable contract with a 4-month probation period.
  • Work Arrangement: Fully remote, based in your country of residence within the Asia-Pacific region.
